In 2021, Americans spent about $25 Billion on cannabis products. the cannabis industry expanded nearly 33% and added more than 107,000 new jobs.
In 37 States cannabis is now legal for medical purposes. 18 States and the District of Columbia now permit legalized recreational-adult use for individuals over the age of 21. 1/3 of Americans now live in a State that legally permits medical and/or recreational use of cannabis. A 2020 Gallup survey found “approval ratings” for legal cannabis at 68%, an all-time high - that is a “yes” from 2 out of 3 Americans.
In 2021, NJ, NY, CT, NM & VA legalized recreational-adult use of cannabis.
February 22, 2021, Governor Murphy of NJ signed the historic adult-use cannabis reform bills into law, legalizing and regulating cannabis use and possession for adults 21 years and older (A21 – “The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act”) and decriminalizing marijuana and hashish possession (A1897).
March 31, 2021, Governor Cuomo of NY signed legislation (S.854-A/A.1248-A) legalizing adult-use cannabis. The bill establishes the Office of Cannabis Management to implement a comprehensive regulatory framework that covers medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp.
The NJ & NY laws provide job protections for recreational users.
