Cannabis, Marijuana and Hemp – What is the Difference?

Under U.S. law, cannabis is the plant itself, and hemp and marijuana are specific parts of the plant. Marijuana refers to the viable seeds, leaves and flowers that produce greater than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).  THC is the principal psychoactive portion of the plant. Hemp refers to the sterilized seeds, stems, stalks and roots that produce less than 0.3% THC.

Ecquinabis prefers and generally uses the term cannabis because of the racist history and connotation of the term marijuana.

Why focus on Economic Equity (EE)?

Ecquinabis’ position is that the emerging economic elements of the cannabis* industry are more significant to advance the interests of People of Color (POC), especially Black and Brown people, and women.  Economic Equity will address and more dramatically alter the disparate wealth gaps in the United States, which impact all facets of live: housing, education, health, justice, well-being, etc. for POC and women.  Economic Equity provisions focus on POC/women’s participation as owners, innovators, researchers and leaders in the global cannabis industry that is projected to reach $57 billion by 2027.

Why address Diversity?

Ecquinabis’ approach is to emphasis the 1st prong of this change model -diversity- which is necessary to transform the participant profile within all levels of the cannabis industry.  Our belief is that the industry must dramatically adjust/shift its Diversity Profile: State Regulatory Agencies, License Owners, Multi-State Owners, Impactful C-Suite staff in public & private companies, Employees, Ancillary Business Ownership, Researchers, Educators, Regulatory Board/Commission Members, Advisors, Counselors, Physicians… Inclusion cannot happen unless you have diverse people to include.

What is meant by Compliance?

Compliance is defined as the act of working in agreement within a rule, law or right. This includes the Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness and Equal Justice under the Law.
